What We Do                                               

SCHR - CAI  Studies Center for Handicapped Research is a non-profit organization. We have been developing this program over ten years of active involvement to provide people with some necessary information a about disability.

The term Disability is wide ranged and as such we maintain updated information on physical and intellectual disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech/language difficulties, psychiatric, genetic, as well as issues around aging and acquired brain injury and other conditions.

The organization is managed by a committee drawn from the local community. All the staff of the have a range of personal and professional experiences about disability in connection with training and development.

Partners: Strategic ICT Programme for Socio-Economic Development, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology.
UNDP - ICTDAR program - ICTARB project.

 Implementation Activities:

 1.1         Facilities.

1.1.1        HW & SW & Network installation

Number of PCs installed: 4 for Ibsar system – Screen Reader.

Number of Braille printers: 1

Number of Ibsar packages installed: 4  and 1 OCR.

LAN & Internet connectivity, server & router: 1

1.2         Training of Trainers. completed in 2006. No. of trainers: 7

1.3         Beneficiaries.

Visually impaired completed their training in 2006: 52

Users used the facilities in 2006: 32

Age groups: From 4 Years to 18 Years old

# of Females: 47     Number of Males: 37

1.4         Audio/Braille Library

Visually impaired users used the library in 2006:112

Books were digitized in 2006: 17

Books were printed in 2006: 22

Audio tapes were completes in 2006: 73 tapes

Age groups: From 12 Years to 23Years old

# of Females 60      Number of Males: 52

All Training for Blind & Visually Impaired was FREE.

All families was very poor .
